From Logs to Lumber was years in the making. Very little has survived about the art of scale- and rule-making; in fact very little was ever printed. Some rules, such as Stanley, had national sales, but most were produced by small, local companies. Many rule-makers only produced them in the off-months, as a sideline to supplement income. Some never made more than a dozen few rules and scales, and some made them only for their own use. From the beginning, the authors of this collection had a formidable task ahead of them. When two such people spend a lifetime studying toolmaking as the co-authors have done, the combined effort can have only a great result. This book offers many details and much information not found anywhere else.
