This volume is a compilation of articles that first appeared in the Boothbay Regional Historical Society's column in the local region newspaper, the Boothbay Register. That monthly column, "Out Of Our Past," was introduced in 1988. For some years there has been marked public interest expressed in seeing the articles published in book form. This book is the result of that interest. More than a hundred historical sketches have been published in the newspaper, and this volume represents a third of them. At the end of each chapter (article) is the date that it originally appeared in the newspaper. Some slight alterations have been made in the articles, some phrases have been added for clarification, and other small changes in spelling, etc., have been made, but the articles published in this book substantially represent the original newspaper columns.
