This turn-of-the-century directory for the city of Portland, Maine, gathers in one place a wide range residential, occupational, and financial information about the inhabitants of the city, combined with additional data on its businesses, civic organizations, and government agencies. The bulk of the information is arranged in three separate but related sections. First comes what is called in some city directories the reverse directory," in which all buildings in the city are listed by street and by their order on each street. The second section contains the usual listing of all city residents in alphabetical order. The third main section groups businesses by type, somewhat like a yellow pages listing.
